Sotheby’s London will auction Princess Diana’s “Revenge Dress” this December, after the garment has been out of public view for nearly three decades. The little black dress—designed by Christina Stambolian—was worn by Diana on June 29, 1994, when she arrived at a fundraising dinner at the Serpentine Gallery in a Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign. The last sale took place in June 1997, when 79 of her dresses were auctioned to support cancer and AIDS charities. The dress will tour Sotheby’s galleries worldwide, starting in London from September 18 to 24, then Hong Kong and Geneva, before arriving in New York for an auction on December 9. It’s estimated to fetch $150,000 to $300,000, and proceeds will benefit NHS Lothian Charity on behalf of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
