Rating how the Welsh clubs have started the season

Welsh clubs are set for November breaks after completing the first block of the 2026-27 season, with the United Rugby Championship on hold while four Nations Championship rounds are played. Cardiff and Dragons are leading the URC on 14 points, with Cardiff seventh on wins. Cardiff’s early form includes a vital 26-0 win over Ospreys in Swansea, after a rare poor showing at the Arms Park against Sharks—mitigated by a five-day turnaround following defeat to Northampton. Lock Josh McNally said the group is aligned and can deliver when “it clicks.” Taine Basham’s impact at No. 8 earned a Wales recall, while young centre Steffan Emanuel starred at Ospreys. Dragons coach Filo Tiatia said his side are content despite injuries and Wales call-ups, and highlighted the importance of the next block.
