Red Wings Hit With Another Injury During Win Over Canucks
The Detroit Red Wings extended their point streak to six games with a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night, but the victory included a major setback in goal. Starting goalie John Gibson suffered an upper-body injury and did not return for the third period. Detroit had already made emergency roster changes earlier in the week, recalling rookie Michal Postava from the Grand Rapids Griffins because backup Daniil Tarasov was hurt. Postava, making his NHL debut, stopped seven of eight shots when he entered in the third and helped preserve Detroit’s three-goal advantage. Afterward, coach Todd McLellan said Gibson’s issue involved his eye and the team was still evaluating it. Gibson’s status for Saturday against Calgary was not yet confirmed.
