Russia’s nuclear-powered battlecruiser Admiral Nakhimov has returned to Severomorsk after 29 years out of service for a major refurbishment, with sea trials reportedly completed. The Kirov-class ship was laid down in Leningrad in 1983 (as Kalinin) and has been sidelined since 1999. Refitting began in 2014 and is expected to keep her in naval duty by the end of 2026. Re-floated on July 25, 2025, she sailed under her own power in August 2025 for the first time in 28 years. Nakhimov’s upgraded design includes 176 VLS cells for Kalibr, Oniks and Zircon missiles.
