Seahawks lose Sam Darnold after 5 plays against Patriots, star QB will not return

The Seahawks lost starting quarterback Sam Darnold after five plays in Wednesday night’s Super Bowl rematch against the Patriots and he will not return. Darnold injured his hip on Seattle’s opening drive, taking a sack on third-and-6 from New England’s 46-yard line when he tried to escape the pocket. He limped to the sideline, went to the locker room, and was ruled out for the rest of the game. After his exit, veteran Drew Lock took over and completed 6 of 8 passes for 51 yards to finish the first half. Coach Mike Macdonald said the team would need to rally around Darnold’s absence.
