Tennessee Tops New Ranking Of Best States For Family Road Trips In 2026
A new Top Villas study ranks all 50 states for family road trips in 2026, placing Tennessee at No. 1 thanks to a balance of attractions, infrastructure, and affordability. The analysis weighs family-friendly attractions, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, biodiversity, road quality, weather reliability, and average meal costs. Tennessee’s win is accompanied by strong mentions of Nashville as a starting point, with highlights such as the Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ole Opry, Centennial Park, the Nashville Zoo, and hands-on exhibits at the Adventure Science Center. In addition, events like CMA Fest (June 4-7) and Let Freedom Sing! (July 3-4) anchor a summer road trip.
Lawrenceburg offers historic downtowns, Amish Country, and David Crockett State Park, which spans over 1,300 acres with trails, boating, cabins, and 100+ campsites, while August’s David Crockett Days (Aug. 21-23) celebrate Crockett’s birthday with period activities. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, straddling Tennessee and North Carolina, remains a top draw with 11.5 million visitors in 2025 and free, family-friendly offerings in gateway towns like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The study notes that the best states combine manageable driving, affordable meals, and robust infrastructure.
