Workington GT Tyres Comets will definitely return to racing in 2027, the club promoter Andrew Bain told fans after the team finished its season on a high. The announcement came at Saturday’s meeting after recent doubts about whether the Comets would survive financially in the second tier. Bain thanked supporters, sponsors, and volunteers, then confirmed: “we’re going to run, for definite, we’re going to come back to the tapes in 2027.” The club previously withdrew from the championship in 2019 after struggling to secure new ownership, before restarting in 2023 at Northside. This year’s dramatic 47-43 home win over Redcar Bears lifted the Comets off the bottom and avoided the wooden spoon, with Jonas Jeppesen and Troy Batchelor securing the final-heat 1-2.
