The Fin and Feather Club of Maine
xCruzo Brief
In Millinocket, Maine, the Fin and Feather Club of Maine is tackling a simple challenge: staying alive for another generation. Founded after a May 1951 meeting in Millinocket, the club originally focused on environmental surveys of lakes and ponds, stocking fish and pheasants, and wildlife preservation. It initially rejected a proposal to admit women, but today women are welcome, making up about a quarter of its membership. The club has 125 life members and roughly the same number of annual renewals, but volunteer recruiting remains difficult. President Bryant Davis, a Millinocket native, became involved in the early 1990s and stresses advocacy over access to woods and waters.
