The New Battle for Alaska Cruise Travelers Is Happening Onboard
Alaska cruise lines are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in ship upgrades to compete for the season’s expected 1.7 million passengers. Early-season sailing at Icy Strait Point showcased Celebrity Solstice and Holland America Line’s MS Eurodam, underscoring the port’s design for multiple ships at once and the importance of authentic Alaska experiences. The Alaska market remains a reliable draw, with 1.7 million passengers projected this season by Cruise Lines International Association. Lines are moving beyond glacier views to immersive itineraries, premium dining and onboard programming that appeal to more affluent travelers. Upgrades include Celebrity Solstice’s renewal, MSC Cruises’ refit of Poesia and Virgin Voyages’ Alaska debut aboard Brilliant Lady, all part of a broad push toward an 'upper premium experience.'
