The North Wales walk that's like going to another planet
North Wales’ Parys Mountain on the island of Anglesey is drawing autumn walkers with a landscape visitors describe as “like Mars on Earth” and “alien”. Located on the northern side of Anglesey near Amlwch, the hill sits within one of the world’s most significant mining landscapes, shaped by more than 4,000 years of extraction. The Amlwch Industrial Heritage Trust supports free public access and offers a free guide for walking the trails until a visitor centre is opened. Copper minerals are credited for the striking gold, purple and green tones; in the 1700s and 1800s Parys Mountain led global copper production. The route includes features such as chasms, an old engine house, and an historic windmill, with two walk options and strong Tripadvisor reviews.
