Todd Monken says Deshaun Watson to start Week 2: "There were really good things on film"
Browns head coach Todd Monken said Deshaun Watson will start Cleveland’s Week 2 game against the Buccaneers in Tampa on Sunday. After a Week 1 loss, Monken pointed to Watson’s performance from Cleveland’s 34-10 defeat, where he went 16 of 22 for 205 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. He highlighted 46 yards from a touchdown pass to Denzel Boston with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter. Monken said Watson has only had two weeks’ worth of full practice reps and that there were “really good things on film” to build on, even though some concepts and execution still need improvement. Monken said he wasn’t considering benching Watson, adding the offense’s inconsistent functioning reflected coaching and players collectively. The interception and passing decisions were also addressed in his remarks.
