Took my toddler and 3-month-old on a work trip. It was exactly as chaotic as you'd imagine -- but I'd do it again.
A work trip to Palm Springs became the ultimate family test for a freelance writer who traveled with her 3-month-old, 2½-year-old toddler, and husband for three days. The drive from their San Diego home took about 2½ hours on paper but closer to 3½ with stops, and the hotel allowed the couple to bring the children. The first day blended reported media events, including a three-course lunch and dessert tasting, with frequent returns to the hotel for nursing and to support her husband’s work. On the first night, both children fell asleep with the mother baby-wearing and soothing her toddler. The second day proved less coordinated: the baby woke repeatedly and the toddler also roused, leaving the household exhausted by night’s end. The couple’s decision highlighted the challenge of balancing press duties and young-child care while traveling together.
