Trump's planned Choctaw Nation rally will be the latest visit to Indian Country

President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma on Thursday, placing him among a small number of sitting U.S. presidents to visit tribal nations while in office. The rally is part of his push through “deep red” states ahead of November’s midterm elections, where he is stumping for Republican candidates and promoting his agenda. The Choctaw Nation said it is renting the venue but not sponsoring the event. Principal Chief Gary Batton said the visit could offer an opportunity to learn about the Choctaw Nation as a sovereign entity. The article notes presidential visits have been rare and have evolved with U.S.–tribal relations.
