Trump takes trip to West Coast to tout the economy, something polls show he's weak on

President Donald Trump is making a rare trip to California and Nevada to argue on the economy, border security and crime as November elections will decide whether Republicans keep control of Congress. He will speak Tuesday at a fundraising dinner for the Republican National Committee at a golf club his family owns in Rancho Palos Verdes, then discuss the economy Wednesday at Red Rock casino in Las Vegas. An AP-NORC poll in late July found only 32% of U.S. adults approved of Trump’s handling of the economy; 69% called it “poor,” citing major stress from groceries and gas. His overall approval stands at 33%. The visit likely targets Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a top 2028 contender.
