Value of auction for 'unusual' farm machines showcased on Clarkson's Farm
The value of auctioning unusual farm machines is highlighted after Cheffins Auctioneers sold Jeremy Clarkson’s Deutz-Fahr tractor during the latest season of Clarkson’s Farm. Cheffins says the tractor exceeded its guide price, surprising Kaleb Cooper in the episode when Clarkson and Cooper attended the sale. Oliver Godfrey, head of machinery at Cheffins, explained that after modifications the vehicle was no longer a standard Deutz-Fahr and was treated as a product of Clarkson’s Farm. He argued that auctions deliver global exposure through Cheffins’ database of buyers, creating a transparent platform that can produce the best bid, particularly for items that have received media attention. Godfrey cited another example: a Stepney Tyres sign sold at Cheffins in March for £83,780 against a £10,000 estimate. He added that past auctions have featured a range of rare items, including vehicles and equipment that might struggle to find private buyers.
