Watch: Great white shark cruises by kayak fisherman off Half Moon Bay

A kayak fisherman near Half Moon Bay, California, recorded a close encounter with a great white shark last weekend that he described as “absolutely frightening.” David Slavich said he was fishing Sunday when he heard a small splash behind his shoulder. Looking back, he saw a “massive fin and shadow” larger than his 12.5-foot kayak, prompting immediate panic. A camera mounted to his kayak captured the interaction as Slavich repeatedly said, “Oh my God,” while the shark cruised past along the water’s surface. Despite the scare, he stayed out and continued fishing for another three to four hours. He plans to use the buddy system on future trips and said he will no longer kayak solo.
