Wimbledon boys champion Lee inspired by World Cup star Yamal

Jordan Lee said his Wimbledon boys’ singles final triumph over Cruz Hewitt was inspired by Spain World Cup star Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old, who beat Hewitt 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 on Court One, pointed to Yamal’s meteoric rise as motivation. Yamal, 18, helped Spain reach the World Cup semi-final against France on Tuesday and previously played a key role in Barcelona’s La Liga title last season. Lee described Yamal as “incredible” and said he looks up to a younger player succeeding at the highest level. He also acknowledged recovering from a serious wrist injury that kept him out for about seven months. Hewitt, 17, was supported by his father Lleyton, Wimbledon champion in 2002, and he said he aims to emulate him with a Wimbledon trophy.
