World Club T20 and shorter ODIs among ICC options in radical overhaul of calendar
World Club T20 and shorter ODIs are among the ICC’s options being discussed in a radical overhaul of cricket’s international calendar. The International Cricket Council is considering multilateral series, new continental championships, and a World Club Championship for T20 franchises, alongside fixed “windows” for each format. Talks between the 12 full members are planned at the ICC’s annual general meeting in Edinburgh on Wednesday, with the process overseen by consulting firm McKinsey. The future tours programme is set until next year, and key events including the World Cups, the World Test Championship, and scheduled England, India and Australia series run through 2031, limiting changes to after that period. Among ideas on ODIs are restricting them to the 18 months before a World Cup and potentially shortening their playing length. The WTC is also set for an expansion to 12 teams for 2027–2029.
