Anthropic moves toward blockbuster IPO after explosive growth
Anthropic has filed for an initial public offering, moving closer to a potentially record-breaking debut after explosive growth in its AI business. The Claude developer reported revenue up 1,368% in the three months ended June 30 versus a year earlier, reaching about $11.6 billion in the second quarter compared with $4.73 billion in the prior three months. The company warned growth rates could decline and fluctuate. In the filing, Anthropic showed a net loss of $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026, largely tied to changes in the fair value of bonds convertible into its shares, though its operating loss narrowed to $693 million from $2.1 billion a year earlier. Analysts and investors are scrutinizing returns on massive AI spending as valuations face pressure. Current and prospective investors value Anthropic around $1.5 trillion, down from roughly $2 trillion a week earlier, and the company raised a $965 billion funding round in May. It is expected to go public before Thanksgiving and will trade on Nasdaq under “ANT” after the IPO closes.
