Ashley Tisdale turning 'toxic mom group' drama into comedy series
Ashley Tisdale is turning drama from her viral essay about a “toxic mom group” into a new Netflix comedy series. After the High School Musical actress published the January piece “Breaking Up with My Toxic Mum Group” in The Cut, speculation circulated that her group included celebrity mothers such as Mandy Moore, Hilary Duff, and Meghan Trainor, allegations she later denied. On Thursday, Deadline reported that Tisdale is developing a show based on the controversy and will appear in it while also serving as executive producer. She is joined by writer Sabrina Jalees and Ali Wong. The synopsis describes “Toxic Moms” as a dark half-hour comedy about a sleep-deprived new mother pulled into a clique of wealthy moms. The project follows public reactions from Duff and Trainor, with Duff saying she felt “really sad,” and Trainor saying she received an apology from Tisdale.
