BBC Breakfast shares Emma Raducanu update as she pulls out of Wimbledon
Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from Wimbledon due to an injury, a development confirmed via BBC Breakfast and the British tennis player’s own social media update. On Monday, June 29, the BBC said Raducanu had been scheduled to begin her campaign against Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic on Court One, but she pulled out late the night before. BBC Breakfast hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent passed the update to John Watson at Wimbledon, who said the decision followed another setback, now identified as a stress fracture in Raducanu’s lower right leg. Raducanu wrote on Instagram that she had been medically advised to stop after a final scan showed the issue had worsened from a “niggle” she had been managing. The 23-year-old expressed disappointment, thanked supporters, and said she looks forward to returning. Wimbledon’s official X account also wished her well as fans responded to the news.
