Broncos Called Out for Lack of 'Elite Talent' on Defense
The Denver Broncos are facing questions about whether they have enough “elite talent” on defense as they head into training camp, despite strong recent performance. Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport pointed to potential risk in 2026, noting that defensive tackle John Franklin-Myers is gone and that edge rusher Jonathon Cooper could face league discipline after multiple off-field incidents, with any suspension potentially harming Denver’s pass rush. Davenport also suggested the linebackers are tough and experienced but not elite, raising the possibility of a defensive step back. The team has addressed the inside linebacker position by re-signing Alex Singleton to a two-year, $15 million deal and Justin Strnad to a three-year, $18 million contract that includes $10 million guaranteed, allowing Strnad to be a full-time starter. Strnad, a 2020 fifth-round pick, has started 8 games in each of the past two seasons.
