Cameron residents, landowners, business owners tell FERC they support Venture Global
Cameron Parish residents, landowners, and business owners sent a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) expressing support for Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) LNG export project. The letter, signed by the Cameron Parish Lion’s Club along with about 100 locals, backs CP2 as an addition to the community and argues the opposition group is benefiting from the project’s economic effects. Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass site is described as a 432-site facility on the Calcasieu Ship Channel, with CP2 built adjacent at Monkey Island. The company is constructing CP2 with Phase 1 financing of $15.1 billion secured in mid-2025, and it seeks FERC approval in an application filed in May to add six additional liquefaction blocks, a third marine loading berth, increased export capacity, and 44 pipelines. The proposed Marais Pipeline would transport 1.9 billion cubic feet of methane gas per day. Supporters cite about 90% of 375 jobs already in place using local labor, plus training partnerships and local donations totaling about $6 million, including a 15% teacher pay increase over three years. They also reference Hurricane Laura recovery efforts in 2020.
