Canada will impose a temporary 25% surtax on imports of some wood cabinets and vanities starting immediately, Ottawa announced as it waits for results from a trade probe. The measure will last for up to 200 days while the Canadian International Trade Tribunal investigates whether higher imports of these goods are threatening harm to Canada’s domestic producers. The tribunal is expected to issue its findings by Jan. 15, 2027, and could recommend remedies if it determines injury. If no harm is found, the surtax will be lifted right away. Cabinets and vanities manufactured in the United States, Mexico, Israel, Chile and in developing nations are exempt.
