Chile Stocks Rebound While the Peso Slips Again
xCruzo Brief
Chile’s main stock gauge, the IPSA index for Santiago’s most traded companies, rose 0.9% to close at 11,470.75 points on Thursday, erasing much of the prior two-session decline. The rebound followed higher U.S. equities after chipmaker Nvidia’s strong results, lifting global sentiment. Meanwhile, the peso moved the other way: the dollar strengthened after U.S. consumer inflation held at 3.7% year on year, reviving expectations that the Federal Reserve could keep rates higher for longer. The dollar closed near 926.6 pesos, after trading between 918.86 and 928.56. Regional markets showed mixed performance, with Brazil and Mexico lagging.
