Community invited to spend 'An evening with Lincoln'
A community presentation titled “An evening with Lincoln” will bring Abraham Lincoln to the Greentown Public Library next Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The performer is Marty Foye of Kokomo, who has portrayed Lincoln throughout Indiana school visits for 20 years and has been invited into classrooms and community settings by schools and principals. For this July 1 appearance, Foye will shift focus toward Lincoln’s time in Indiana, as requested by the Greentown Historical Society, rather than the usual tour material. The event draws on Foye’s near-identical physical resemblance to Lincoln and his approach of speaking directly to fourth-graders in a large group setting. His talks are provided free and build on a history of giving back through community education. Foye, a U.S. Air Force veteran, has visited roughly 25 to 30 schools per year and plans to delve into another chapter of Lincoln’s life ahead of the America 250 celebration.
