Crypto Market Update: Bitcoin Hits US$85K, Liquidates US$648M in Shorts

Bitcoin rose to about $85,111 on Monday (September 21), up 5.7% over 24 hours, after a week shaped by macroeconomic moves and shifts in risk sentiment. Ethereum (ETH) was priced at $2,715.02 (+5.9%), XRP at $1.49 (+8%), and Solana at $115.90 (+8.3%) as markets tracked the rally. The rebound came alongside heavy short liquidations: $648 million were wiped out in bearish positions across crypto over a single 24-hour period. Spot buying cleared resistance around $82,000 and pushed the price above $84,000, forcing more than $230 million in Bitcoin shorts to close. Separately, Strategy bought 950 BTC for $75.7 million.
