xCruzo Brief

Delta Air Lines is expanding its lower-cost “Basic” fare options into its premium cabins, offering first-class and business-class seating at reduced prices while limiting benefits. The airline introduced three new fares: Delta First Basic, Delta Premium Select Basic, and Basic Business, described as the entry-level version of Delta One. Delta says the move follows earlier changes, including new fare categories launched last year and the expansion of Basic fares to Delta Comfort in 2025. Passengers on Basic premium fares get the same in-flight product in the same cabin, such as lie-flat seating, chef-curated three-course meals, and premium amenities, but with trade-offs. Seat assignments occur after check-in, SkyMiles accrual is lower, checked baggage allowance is reduced, and upgrades are not eligible. Changes are limited, including no same-day confirmed or standby changes, with some itinerary changes or cancellations subject to fees. Starting January 19, 2027, Basic Business will lose Delta One lounge access and Delta One check-in through the fare, though other qualifying methods remain. Delta First Basic is available now on select domestic routes and to Latin America, while other Basic premium fares begin travel in September on select routes.
