Deputy PM urges shift from innovation activities to measurable results
Vietnam needs to move from running innovation activities to delivering measurable results, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung said at National Innovation Day 2026 in Hanoi on October 4. He argued that while capital investment, labour, natural resources and expanded production still matter, they can’t sustain high growth long term. The focus should instead be on new productivity, technologies, products and business models that create added value. Dung said businesses must be placed at the centre by turning research into practical outcomes such as better product quality, lower costs and deeper value-chain integration. Vietnam’s Global Innovation Index 2026 ranking is 43rd out of 139 economies, and the ecosystem includes over 4,000 enterprises and about 208 venture capital funds.
