Canadian markets look set for a busy week, with trade tensions and key earnings on deck. Trade Canada’s counter-tariffs will take effect Tuesday on nearly $28 billion of U.S. products, after Prime Minister Mark Carney announced tit-for-tat measures when talks with the U.S. broke down last month and the U.S. imposed fresh tariffs on about $28 billion in Canadian goods. On Wednesday, Scotiabank hosts its annual global banking and markets summit. Transat A.T. is scheduled to report third-quarter results Thursday, followed by Empire Co.’s first-quarter release and meeting. Unifor has set Friday as an internal deadline to seek a tentative agreement with Stellantis, amid concern over the Brampton plant idled since 2023.
