FTSE 100 Live: London stocks open higher despite $100 oil, tech jitters
London’s FTSE 100 traded higher shortly after the open on Friday, despite oil moving above $100 a barrel and continued jitters around technology stocks. The index recovered from early losses and was up 25 points, at 10,664.36, about 20 minutes into trading, reversing an expectation of a 40-point decline. The Sage Group PLC led gainers with a 1.7% rise, followed by Pershing Square Holdings and RELX, both up 1.5%. Airtel Africa fell 2.7%, Standard Chartered dropped 1.8%, and Rio Tinto slid 1.6%. Market focus also turned to UK retail figures: retail sales volumes rose 1% in June from May, according to the Office for National Statistics. Separately, President Donald Trump’s Section 301 tariffs restarted, with new duties ranging from 10% to 12.5% for around 60 trading partners, after prior levies expired.
