FTSE 100 Live: Travel stocks drag but BP climbs as oil surges to four-week high
xCruzo Brief
FTSE 100 was dragged early by travel and consumer-related stocks as oil prices jumped to a four-week high. The index slipped eight points to 10,490 in early trading, with shares tied to tourism taking some of the heaviest pressure. Holiday Inn owner IHG, British Airways parent IAG and Whitbread, operator of Premier Inn, were down between 3% and 1.7%, alongside Rolls-Royce, which fell more than 1%. Retailers and housebuilders also weakened, including JD Sports, M&S, Barratt Redrow and Persimmon, down 1.3% or more. BP led gainers, up 2.6% on higher oil prices and an earlier update. Shell, Centrica and miners such as Glencore, Anglo American, Rio Tinto and Antofagasta were also among top performers, reflecting a broad commodities tailwind.
