FTSE 100 movers: Fresnillo shines as gold, silver prices rise
London’s FTSE 100 was flat at 10,658.16 in afternoon trade on Friday as precious-metals sentiment improved. Fresnillo led the risers after gold rebounded to just below $4,200 per ounce and silver prices also climbed, following a weaker first half when gold had dipped below $4,000. Dan Coatsworth of AJ Bell said US jobs data pointing to a softer labor market raised hopes the Fed would not increase rates, which reduced US Treasury yields and weakened a key fixed-income driver that had pulled money away from gold. Other gainers included St James’s Place, Weir Group and Metlen Energy, alongside Melrose Industries. Patrick Munnelly at Tickmill Group noted investors were not exiting risk entirely but became more selective, supporting regulated and infrastructure-linked names such as SSE and National Grid. The article lists multiple FTSE fallers, including InterContinental Hotels Group and Games Workshop.
