FTSE 100 today: Stocks rise as miners jump; oil eases
Britain’s FTSE 100 rose about 1% on Friday, putting it on track to end a two-session losing streak, as miners gained alongside metals prices and oil eased. Sterling slipped to $1.3208. Miners led with Antofagasta up 4.5% and Fresnillo, Glencore, Anglo American and Endeavour Mining rising between 2.8% and 3.2%. Gold climbed, with U.S. gold futures up 1.13% to $4,204.45 an ounce and spot gold up 1.10% to $4,179.21; copper gained 1.3% and silver rose 2.3%.
Oil was softer: Brent futures fell 0.62% to $103.67 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate rose 0.08% to $91.57. The day’s market tone came after the U.S. president ruled out attacking Iran before next month’s midterms, easing concerns, despite continued Houthi attacks on Saudi targets including Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport. The EU aviation safety agency advised airlines to avoid further Saudi airspace.
