Glen Powell Says He Doesn't Want to Talk Politics, Blames Paramount Marketing Cuts for 'The Running Man' Box Office Performance
Glen Powell said he doesn’t want to discuss politics, arguing that political debate “divide[s] people” and isn’t a healthy kind of conversation. In an Esquire cover story, he referenced his mother, Cyndy Powell, who worked at the U.S. Treasury under the Reagan administration, adding that current events never came up at family dinners. Powell also suggested he won’t engage publicly in political discourse, saying his “calling is elsewhere.” The profile contrasts this stance with other celebrities, including Sydney Sweeney and Jennifer Lawrence, who have also addressed reluctance to weigh in politically. Separately, Powell attributed The Running Man’s weak box office to Paramount cutting an entire marketing department about a month before release, which opened Nov. 14, 2025, after staff cuts reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Oct. 29.
