Gwynne Shotwell's $300 million SpaceX pledge to Trump Accounts shows billionaires a tax-smart way to give away their own company's stock | Fortune
Gwynne Shotwell, presidenta de SpaceX, pledged about $300 million worth of SpaceX shares to Trump Accounts, a tax-advantaged program for children launched on July 4, according to Fortune. New rules effective Sept. 30 allow wealthy donors to place publicly traded U.S. company shares into Trump Accounts via charities and after Treasury approval. As of Oct. 1, Treasury had opened accounts for nearly every eligible child under 18—about 60 million. Previously, Trump Accounts invested in low-cost index funds; the new framework creates an exception for donated stock, targeting kids ages 11 to 17 in lower-income areas, with extra emphasis near Shotwell’s central Texas home. Shotwell said the donation was valued at $325 million by Trump and about $330 million based on Thursday’s share price, with the tax advantages coming through transferring appreciated shares to a foundation first.
