Consumers are suing Amazon, alleging the retailer is using “green” marketing to mask allegedly illegal, unregulated fishing practices tied to seafood sold through brands including 365 by Whole Foods Market, Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and others, according to attorneys cited in the complaint. The lawsuit targets Amazon.com Inc. and argues the company knowingly misled shoppers. The claim centers on the idea that Amazon, described as the country’s second-largest grocer, promotes sustainability while the underlying sourcing does not meet legal and regulatory standards. The matter is being brought as a class-action.
