Highly dangerous' travel adaptors found for sale to UK consumers

A charity warned that “highly dangerous” travel adapters have been found for sale to UK consumers on major online marketplaces. Electrical Safety First said it bought 14 devices from AliExpress, eBay, Amazon Marketplace and TikTok Shop, and all failed basic safety tests. The worst units posed risks of serious electric shock or even electrocution. The charity said listing information suggests more than 10,000 unsafe adapters may have already been sold in the UK. In tests of six universal adapters, more than one set of plug pins could be exposed and live at the same time, exposing users to up to 240 volts. All eight universal adapters failed dimensional and mechanical strength checks, with pins that could break off inside sockets. Further lab testing showed six samples failed fire and flammability requirements.
