House GOP breaks weeks-long standoff between Republican leaders and hardliners as the chamber moved past a legislative gridlock. On Tuesday, Republicans approved a rule by a 215-211 vote that sets up floor debate and final votes on multiple measures, ending an impasse that had stalled much of the House’s business. The win was a key boost for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who faced pressure from conservative hardliners to act more aggressively on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act and steps to codify President Trump’s border policies. Johnson secured support from Reps. Anna Paulina Luna and Tim Burchett, using a strategy described on Capitol Hill as “MIRVing” by merging SAVE with a fiscal 2027 appropriations bill. The rule advances the State Department funding bill and a measure making daylight saving time permanent nationwide. Rep. Randy Fine was the only Republican to vote no.
