India Caps Fuel Sales To Avoid Shortages

India has imposed limits on gasoline and diesel sales at retail stations to prevent shortages. Commercial buyers are barred from purchasing fuel at retail outlets, with a diesel cap of 200 litres per vehicle, and resale is forbidden. The restriction will run for an initial 90 days and may be canceled earlier. The measure comes as Middle East disruptions raise energy costs and India's import bill. April wholesale inflation rose to 8.3%, with gasoline up 32.4% and diesel up 25.19% year on year. May inflation is expected to rise about 4% as energy costs stay elevated and wholesale inflation climbs by more than 9%.
