Indoor market traders move into temporary home
Indoor market traders in Rotherham are moving temporarily to make way for upgrade work at the Howard Street site. The traders have spent the past week relocating stock to the Market Hall building on Drummond Street, which opens to the public on Friday. Work will then begin on revamping the existing indoor market, with a planned reopening in 2027 as a fully refurbished facility for traders and customers. The indoor-market project is part of a wider multi-million-pound regeneration scheme that includes a new central library, a community hub, and a revamped outdoor market for exhibitions and events. Funding totals more than £46 million from the government and Rotherham Council, with additional support from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority after rising costs. Temporary mobility access will be available on Henry Street opposite Tesco.
