Journalist: Liverpool must pay £51m to sign midfielder this summer
Liverpool’s midfield pursuit this summer has refocused on Wolves midfielder João Gomes, but at a higher price. A report by journalist Ekrem Konur says Wolves want £51 million to approve a sale, representing a significant rise from an earlier figure discussed elsewhere. The valuation update comes as Liverpool evaluates options for Andoni Iraola’s first transfer window, with Gomes described as both a tracked target and currently available. Konur also linked the timeline to a stalled deal involving Atlético Madrid, after an earlier €40 million agreement was expected, while Manchester United reportedly moved away from a €40 million move for Éderson and toward Gomes. Konur added that Wolves value Gomes around €60 million, with both Premier League clubs monitoring the situation. The same account cites Gomes’ 2023-24 defensive output—388 defensive contributions, 107 tackles, 45 clearances and 194 ball recoveries—plus 85.6% pass accuracy, while noting limited creative impact with only two big chances created.
