xCruzo Brief
European stocks ended Friday mostly flat as U.S. equities fell after a stronger-than-expected jobs report boosted the odds of a September interest-rate hike. In London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.43 points to 10,831.09, while the FTSE 250 gained 88.58 points (0.4%) to 24,584.71. The AIM all-share rose slightly to 799.91. For the week, FTSE 100 was up 0.4% but FTSE 250 slipped 1.3% and the AIM all-share fell 1.4%. In New York, the Dow dropped 0.7%, the S&P 500 slid 0.5% and the Nasdaq eased 0.4%. The U.S. labor market added 162,000 nonfarm jobs in August versus forecasts of 56,000, with the unemployment rate steady at 4.1%. With CPI due next Friday, analysts said it could be decisive for the Fed’s September decision.
