Luke Weaver Trade Should Be Among Mets' Top Priorities 4 Weeks Before Deadline
With less than a month until the 2026 MLB trade deadline on August 3 at 6 p.m. ET, the New York Mets are shaping up as likely sellers, not buyers, and Luke Weaver is at the center of the discussion. As president of baseball operations David Stearns prepares the organization’s 2027 roster, Weaver—under contract for next year as well—is viewed as one of the team’s best trade chips. Signed to a two-year deal this past winter, Weaver still has $12.5 million remaining for the 2027 season. The 32-year-old has been baseball’s best reliever since May 1, turning a 6.00 ERA after April 30 into 25 straight scoreless innings in 23 games. He has a .097 average against right-handers, plus strong run-prevention metrics. With the Mets’ bullpen one of MLB’s best units, multiple relievers could be available, though Weaver’s value could trigger a bidding war.
