Mexico's economy bounces back in April, posting 2.2% annual growth
Mexico’s economy bounced back in April, gaining 2.2% year-on-year after contracting 0.6% in the first quarter versus the final three months of 2025, according to INEGI. The agency reported that April growth reached 1.2% compared with March, with month-over-month gains the strongest since March 2021, when the economy rose 1.6% from the prior month. The annual rate also exceeded the first-quarter 0.4% expansion. IN April, construction was a key driver, up 10.2% annually and 7.6% versus March, with analysts linking part of the increase to projects tied to the FIFA men’s World Cup co-hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada. By sector, primary activity rose 4.7% annually, secondary grew 1.8%, and services increased 2.4%. INEGI’s preliminary outlook for May showed 0.0% month-over-month and 1.1% annual growth.
