MLB rumors: NL East team eyeing Sonny Gray; Astros have Yordan Alvarez plan - CBS Sports
With the 2026 MLB trade deadline now less than four weeks away, rumors are centering on pitching needs in the NL East and Houston’s stance on key hitters. The Atlanta Braves are reported to have interest in Red Sox starter Sonny Gray, though he has a full no-trade clause; the report also notes the Cardinals cover $20 million of Gray’s $35 million salary this year, and he carries a $30 million club option for 2027. Gray, 36, is described as having a strong season as Atlanta looks to add pitching after injuries and performance declines. Separately, the Astros say they will not trade Yordan Álvarez, with the All-Star and MVP candidate telling The Athletic that Houston’s front office said he would not be moved. Álvarez, 29, is under a bargain contract paying $26 million in both 2027 and 2028.
