Namibia secures China deals on infrastructure, mining and energy with state visit
Namibia secures China deals on infrastructure, mining and energy with state visit: during talks in Beijing, Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah agreed to deepen cooperation across energy, agriculture, infrastructure and minerals. China said it will expand collaboration as Nandi-Ndaitwah leads a seven-day visit to seek investment from the world’s top lender, aiming to implement election pledges focused on jobs and diversifying Namibia’s economy. The two sides signed eight documents, including agreements on green minerals and a framework for an economic partnership. Xinhua reported plans to strengthen cooperation on critical minerals such as uranium, lithium and rare earths, emphasizing local processing, technology transfer and skills development. Namibia is reported to have discovered an estimated 2.6 billion barrels of crude and plans to begin production. China is also described as a major export destination, taking about a quarter of shipments, with uranium making up 85% of the $1.3 billion purchased last year.
