Temu hit with massive EU fine over hazardous goods

EU regulators fined Temu 200 million euros for exposing consumers to unsafe and non-compliant products, including baby toys and electronic chargers that failed European safety standards. The penalty, announced May 29 under the Digital Services Act, marks the second major DSA sanction after a prior fine on X. Temu, which serves about 92 million EU users and is owned by PDD Holdings, says it disagrees and has since strengthened risk assessment, governance, and user protection. Regulators said Temu failed to properly identify and assess risks; the Commission ordered an action plan by the end of August outlining fixes, with ongoing fines possible for non-compliance.
