Not perfect...' - Andoni Iraola outlines what FSG told him when he arrived at Liverpool
Andoni Iraola said Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group told him upon his arrival that “everything is not perfect,” outlining the challenges he must address as head coach. Iraola, 44, took the job in early June as Arne Slot’s replacement after the Dutch manager’s difficult 2025/26 season left Liverpool missing key targets, including Champions League qualification. Speaking to media on Monday, he said FSG referenced player departures, injuries and other obstacles, while adding that the task is to solve them and maximize squad performance. Iraola indicated he is broadly content with squad quality but wants more signings in the current transfer window. He also pointed to long-term injuries affecting players such as Hugo Ekitike and Conor Bradley, arguing that extended absences can heavily impact available depth.
