Outrage erupts after Trump's 21,000 trades surface amid market turmoil
Outrage erupts after Trump's 21,000 trades surface amid market turmoil ties its viral market- and politics-adjacent framing to a different story: fact-checkers refuted a claim that The Simpsons predicted the outcome of Egypt’s World Cup match versus Australia. A video circulating before the Round of 32 match said the show forecast a 1-1 draw and then an Egyptian win on penalties. According to an examination by Agence France-Presse’s Arabic fact-checking arm, the clip was doctored and the original was traced via reverse image search to a TikTok account that posted AI-generated World Cup predictions in the style of The Simpsons. The TikTok account has been removed. Investigators cited signs of tampering, including warped writing, distorted faces in the crowd, and flags that did not match either country. The article notes this allegation fits a multi-year pattern of AI-created or digitally edited videos falsely claiming the show foreshadowed major events such as COVID-19 and other conflicts.
